World’s top off road cyclists descend on Adelaide (2 comments) (link) Sunday, 12-February-2012 9:54 PM - by Squidly Didly
ADELAIDE is preparing once again to be the cycling capital of Australia. From February 22 to 26 Adelaide is hosting the Specialized Australian Mountain Bike Championships where spectators will be wowed with the excitement of Downhill, Cross Country, Four Cross and Observed Trials. Key races during the event will be televised in a two hour special broadcast on SBS thanks to Subaru.
Riders of all standards are welcome to register. Registering on line before Feb 14 will save riders up to $50 and give them up to five days of riding at some of Australia’s most challenging tracks.
The Australian Championships has far more facilities that the average races. The village contains a range of food and drink stalls, a jumping castle and loads of exhibitor stands and new bikes to check out. Specialized Test the Best will be there to give riders and spectators and opportunity to try out their new range of bikes. Key component makers SRAM and Shimano are set up to provide support for broken and damaged components. Riders can also book a tent site within the village to have a base to chill out and enjoy the monster screen and commentary of all the races.
So register now and get into the atmosphere that only the Specialized Australian Mountain Bike Championships can provide.
Event schedule and online registration for riders and volunteers can be accessed on www.eaglechamps.com.au
Real Insurance Gravity Cup Race Results – Round 3 at Stromlo (1 comments) (link) Monday, 6-February-2012 12:45 AM - by Scott
After the first 3 races of the season, many are asking what it will take for someone to defeat Troy Brosnan (SA) and Tracey Hannah (QLD) in a National DownHill race, both of whom are consistently winning significant margins from quality fields. Some then go one step further and start to think a little further based on their Real Insurance Gravity Cup form – just how far can these two riders go this year?
Conditions at Stromlo Forest Park were fantastic for racing, with a warm sunny day presented to riders. Strengthening winds threatened to offer some extra challenge through the air, but in the end only served to make the course ride faster. The track has always favoured riders with plenty of power, and the new changes the ACT government have made to the course have added challenge and enjoyment for the riders, returning the top section to a natural, flowing trail.
