Action: ‘02/’03 NORBA DH, Red Bull Rampage ’02, Dirt Jumping, BMX, Spronging, Jipping
Shamefully brought to you by Litter Mag, "Clappin Yo’ Dome" (CYD) is photo and, as it turns out, video guru Shawn Spomer’s first release. A look at the ’02 and ’03 Norba DH circuit, the 2002 Red Bull Rampage, spronging, experimental 20" mountain bikes, super-grom Californian dirt jumpers, black diamond freejibbing and whole lot more.
Set to change the way you think about the things you think about and featuring the biggest huck to flat ever caught on tape CYD is shot with girlfriend parent and wife pleasing EYE-MAX technology.
Serious Comment Warning: Think somewhere between "Drift" and "Mudcows" done in the U.S and your some of the way to getting your head around CYD because chances are this is the most unconventional MTB releases you will see this year.
Action:
CYD brings the pain with great coverage of the NORBA downhill circuit from late 2002 through to 2003. CYD gives you a look at 22% more NORBA action than other leading DVD's and includes the ’03 Sea Otter dual slalom and mountain cross and Big Bear ’03.
And what NORBA footage would be complete without plenty of shots of the Aussie assault out there and tearing tracks to pieces, plenty of local boys get their heads in CYD’s sights so keep your eyes peeled.
Serious Comment Warning: CYD explores the worlds of dirt jumping, BMX and spronging and captures some massive offs and crazy hucks from the Red Bull Rampage 2002 as well as the hottest footage of people punching each other in throat ever committed to 16mm film (you'll understand when you see it).
Camerawork / Cinematography
It’s not a big budget vid, so you’re not going to be getting helicopter chase runs and crazy cable camera footage, but you do get up close and personal footage of a bunch of awesome NORBA DH courses and some insane roof hucks to flat.
Serious Comment warning: I don’t know about everyone else out there, but I really enjoyed the stripped down, low-key style of filming that CYD uses particularly in the street and dirt jump sections and found the style reminiscent of skate and BMX videos, with single cameras in close and following riders through sections.
Soundtrack:
If there’s one thing the world of MTB videos is lacking, it’s the gangsta/pimp rap element, which CYD delivers in bucket loads via a bit of Snoop Dogg / Pharrell Williams duet.
Steppenwolf's 'Magic Carpet Ride' gets a look in with a mix of rock hip-hop and some of the hottest Limp Bizkit style music ever made by musicians (not un-musicians).
Originality:
CYD is the first video I’ve seen since ‘The Circus’ to give a close up look at an overseas race series, two thumbs up for race footage in videos!
It gives fresh insight into the innovative and groundbreaking new 'movements' in mtb; spronging, 20" mtbs, 26" BMX, erbon assolt and jipping. Welcmoe tot he nu skool.
Serious Comment Warning: It takes a slightly twisted view on the sport and shows you that it's all about riding a bike the way you want and having fun doing it.
Overall:
I enjoyed the vid and found it to be one of those titles I could watch over and over again. It's got racing, it's got freeriding, it's got Hasselhoff, it's got everything you could ever want in a MTB movie for a 23% more exciting DVD experience.
